As we celebrate this beautiful First of May, here is Jonathan Coulton’s “Invisible Post”:

Invisible Post

Which is what this will be for many of you today – traffic on the First of May is always a little heavy for some reason, but my poor server is doing its best to keep up. I wish you all a happy Spring, even if you don’t know it.

This song is free even when it is not this day of the year, but it is especially free today (if you know what I mean):

First of May (<–Not At All Safe For Work)

-Jonathan Coulton, May 1st 2009 – http://www.jonathancoulton.com/

VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED – “First of May” is a song that celebrates the coming of spring… by doin’ it outside. This video contains adult language and situations. If you are easily offended by such things, please be forewarned.

Otherwise, watch it. It’s one of the best songs of all time!

If you’re like me, you might not recognize a certain phrase in the song the first time you hear it. If so, read this definition of “flagrante delicto”

Perhaps after this, you’ll be able to say you learned something new today.

I am a self-confessed weather junkie. It is possible this condition could be hereditary as my older sister, Maureen, is even more obsessed than me. She is a trained weather spotter AND is certified with the NWS (that’s the National Weather Service) which basically makes her a weather celebrity.

For people like us, watching weather is entertainment. The Weather Channel is standard fare for us and can be watched for hours on end. You can imagine my surprise when I realized the Weather Channel might be taking advantage of my addiction to anything weather-related.

Weather Channel Accused of Pro-Weather Bias

Does anyone know if there’s a 12-step program for people in our condition?

Perhaps our only hope is a weather intervention.

The old man in my house, aside from me, is my cat Bella. Bella is coming up on his 15th birthday. I got him as a kitten in May of 1993 and he has been with me through most of my 20′s and 30′s. In that time, Bella and I have lived in seven different homes together. How’s that for commitment?

Bella’s Life Lesson: There’s Nothing Better than a Good Nap

According to Bella, the key to a good, long life is knowing where to find a sunny, warm spot to nap.

From the looks of this pictures, he’s going to live a good, long time.

Garla’s Life Lesson: It’s the Thought that Counts

Garla, on the other hand, is just a kid. She’s four and acts like a temperamental teenager. But she’s got her good side. And she likes to nap too. She’d just prefer to be outside…

Sometimes, after not being able to find her for awhile, I slip and call her by her not-so-politically-correct nickname: “Hooker”. Fortunately, she’s fixed.

Not long after the picture above was taken, I happened to notice Garla at the back door with something in her mouth. Turns out, she brought me a present:

Garla was extremely proud and was looking to me for approval and praise. Unfortunately, when she looked at me, the Lizard made a break for it!

The Lizard got away.

Quite an exciting day here. I think it’s time for a nap.

This was my first visit to Usery Pass at Usery Mountain Regional Park in Mesa, Arizona. It was definitely one of the more scenic hikes I’ve taken in the Phoenix area. If you haven’t been to Arizona, you might be like a lot of people and think the desert is just rocks and cacti. Well, everywhere you look right now, there are colors and flowers blooming.

The following pictures were taken while hiking along the Wind Cave trail:

After the hike, I saw a couple of people looking at something on the side of the road near the trail head. What they were looking at was this turtle, about the size of a basketball, taking a Sunday morning stroll. I pulled over to take a few pictures.

I’ve lived in Arizona for almost 18 years and this is my first time seeing a turtle in it’s natural environment.

Pretty cool stuff!
