Go Daddy’s annual holiday party on December 11th, 2010 at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, was impressive.

Town Hall Meeting with Senator John McCain

Senator John McCain visited Go Daddy headquarters today to talk to a large group of employees and answer questions on several “hot-button” political issues.

The senator spoke about national security, the economy, and border security among other topics. Always the skilled politician, Senator McCain answered the questions posed to him while avoiding getting mired in the actual substance of divisive issues like securing the border,amnesty, and support of the tea party movement.

I admit I have philosophical differences with the senator on several issues but it was still an honor to hear him speak. At the conclusion, I even got to shake Senator McCain’s hand.

This Week’s Bountiful Basket

An Unexpected Birthday Gift

For my birthday in April, I was given a gift certificate stating I was scheduled to attend a 2-hour, Trapeze 101 class at Trapeze U in Gilbert, Arizona. Needless to say, it was an unexpected gift. I’m not sure I had ever considered flying on a trapeze. I had no idea there was even a trapeze school nearby.

Several years ago, and for no real good reason, I earned the nickname Flying Galindo (Flying G for short). Flying Galindo sounds similar to the Flying Wallendas, the legendary high wire family. That’s probably what made this gift so appropriate and such a good idea. Now I could live up to my nickname.

After the surprise of the gift wore off, I checked out Trapeze U’s website. I began to get really excited. This was going to be fun.

What a Rush!

Fast forward three weeks to the morning of Saturday, May 15th, 2010. My class was scheduled for 8:00am to 10:00am. What an incredible experience. I climbed the ladder and flew on the trapeze a total of eight times that morning. It was exciting and scary all at the same time. Each time I stepped onto the platform to jump, my heart was racing. Each time I landed and climbed off the net, the adrenaline was flowing. All I could say afterwords was “What a rush!”.

Cloudburst

Leaving work today, I caught the following cloud images with rain showers visible just below the clouds. What was interesting was how clear the sky was in the immediate surrounding area.

After I got home, I saved a Wunderground.com image of the NEXRAD Local Radar at the time I took the photo. You can see the red radar echo of the cloud formation I captured in the photograph just below where it says “Phoenix” on the map.

Day 11, BPP-7: Comparative Progress Pictures

Today is one week since my first set of pictures. I thought it might be interesting to compare where I’m at today side-by-side with those I took last Saturday morning.

I’m not going to analyze them too much. For me, I know that most of the improvement is with my right eye. It’s closing just slightly better which really helps with keeping it from drying out.

The pictures in the right column were taken Saturday, April 12th, 2008, with the exception of the side profile smiling photos. I decided to start adding that perspective on Wednesday, April 16th, 2008.

Day 7, BPP-4: Dry Eye and a Dry Day in the Arizona Desert

Today was dry day here in Arizona. Here are the current readings here in Chandler:

See the time and temperature? 80 degrees at 7:25 in the evening. See the humidity? 9% That’s dry.

Now, you may be thinking , “Yes that’s dry, but you live in the desert. Why do you bring it up?”

Normally, it’s fairly dry. But this is REALLY dry. Everybody’s been complaining of dry eyes and dry sinuses. For me, I’ve been sneezing a lot and had to take extra special care of my eye today. In addition to that, it’s really windy today which only aggravates the situation. My eye patch and the gel eye drops really helped today.

Aside from that, not much else to report today, but I’m doing ok. I’ll write more tomorrow on where I’m at with my BP.

Well, I think I’m going to relax and finish watching American Idol. And Vote for Jason Castro -he’s of Colombian descent, like me. Got to support the heritage right?

Day 5, BPP-2: Sunday Morning Flying

For the last four or five days, I’ve been coping with my Bell’s Palsy. This is Day 5 and my 2nd Bell’s Palsy Post (BPP-2). The whole process up to this point has been exhausting and at times, frustrating. Still, I’m feeling optimistic and hopeful. I should probably be resting more and that’s something I’m going to work on in the days and weeks ahead.

That being said, I still want to get out and do stuff. I was invited to breakfast this morning with friends at the Hanger Cafe. The restaurant is close to home and is at Chandler Municipal Airport. I had a good and easy-to-eat breakfast of scrambled eggs, potato cubes and bacon strips.

After a breakfast, I was able to take a short flight in the friend’s plane. It was windy and a little bumpy but definitely a fun flight. Now, you may be thinking that this site’s [former] name, Flyinggalindo.com, implies that I’m a pilot. I am not. The story behind that is a longer story than I intend to tell right now. However, I actually was a “Flying Galindo” today. AND… as seen in the following pictures, I was ACTUALLY FLYING THE PLANE!

OK, so it was me basically making small turns and keeping the nose of the plane level but I was FLYING!

So, here I am, 5 days into Bell’s Palsy and still able to have a good time.

This was my first visit to Usery Pass at Usery Mountain Regional Park in Mesa, Arizona. It was definitely one of the more scenic hikes I’ve taken in the Phoenix area. If you haven’t been to Arizona, you might be like a lot of people and think the desert is just rocks and cacti. Well, everywhere you look right now, there are colors and flowers blooming.

The following pictures were taken while hiking along the Wind Cave trail:

After the hike, I saw a couple of people looking at something on the side of the road near the trail head. What they were looking at was this turtle, about the size of a basketball, taking a Sunday morning stroll. I pulled over to take a few pictures.

I’ve lived in Arizona for almost 18 years and this is my first time seeing a turtle in it’s natural environment.

Pretty cool stuff!
